Very classy Debs! Was this made from the colour mixed clay in your last post? Greer

debs_sains- 10-11-2008

Yes, they were Greer, overlaid with black oils which tends to tone down the colours and gives them a muted hue. I am over the circle series though...........need a new direction which I am working on tonight. Husband brought me some funky trays from his supply shop (he's a chef), so I am anxious to see if I can make some dome shaped beads. I always worry that I am not fully extending the scope of the polymer. I tend to use it like I would a canvas......a surface to which I can then apply my favourite mediums of texture and oils. I look at the work of other polymer artists (all those wonderful techniques) and worry that I am doing it an injustice. Then I think......hang on, if everyone thought this way then we wouldn't discover new ideas. I've yet to discover a "new idea" but I am working on it. Thanks for viewing....means a lot!!!! Cheers Debs

I'll show you an example. I made this necklace a while ago. A very simple design but it is textured with oils and slightly hollow domed ( you can't see the domed effect in this pic) and the colours are beautiful if worn against a black top (as I was wearing it on this particular day, black roll-neck jumper and jeans). A lady brought it because of the colours and simple design; she said it was just the kind of thing she was looking for. I was so surprised that she wanted it, I mumbled some ridiculously low price (barely covered my clay and findings), and she was delighted. I arrived home a bit stunned that someone actually brought one of my designs. But.....a few weeks later I saw her wearing it and.......well, it looked completely different! You spend so much time designing and making that sometimes we fail to see what other people see. I saw a simple design with pretty colours, which looked quite nice against a black jumper. She saw a piece of jewelry that was different to what she had and she liked it. I was worried that it wasn't "technical" enough, but she just liked the arrangement and colours. No matter how much I sell (and I've sold a few since), I will always be amazed that what is in my head is actually appealing to others.......... Yeah......I know I am probably not making sense but surely there is another member out there who is also chuffed when someone actually buys their designs. I sell paintings.......I never thought I would actually sell my jewelry!!!! LOL......thanks for listening guys! Signing off now before I make a fool of myself :) Regards Debs

Just love your song sung blue ... gorgeous.

melaniedilday- 10-11-2008

Debs, I'm thoroughly enjoying your jewellery designs. Nice crisp simple lines, soft muted colours, a bit of texture to catch the eye. I've been selling for many years but still I get excited when pieces sell. To think that someone paid actually money for something I made still blows me away so I totally understand where you're coming from. Keep em coming. We're loving them and so will the person who buys them! This la-*test*-('") Song Sung Blue one is gorgeous.

Yes i am the same...i still get a buzz when someone buys something i have made!!!! I doubt whether that feeling will ever pass. Dont doubt what you are doing, Debs...i think that spoils the pleasure...some people pusht the boundaries...others kinda plod...i am a plodder...i suck up all the knowledge i can, and know that i am still on my creative journey...just enjoy the ride!!!
