Millefiori project & spinoffs

Post Millefiori project & spinoffs
Inspired by a glass-beaded millefiori bracelet found in a secondhand shop, I've been messing about with all these lovely rainbow-coloured clays.

The surprise here was that I expected the flowers with the blue packing to come out worst. The blue clay was so soft that it was spreading like butter, even after sitting in the fridge. Instead, it was the canes with the nice firm purple background that went all pinwheely. Smile

As usual, the offcuts and scraps are providing as much, if not more, fun than the main event. These beads are exactly the same size and shape as Panadol tablets, but are not quite as easy on the eyes. Very Happy

I can't really explain this one, and I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. Any suggestions are welcomed (approx. dimensions 6 cm x 7.5 cm x 1 cm). I've been hanging around with quilters & patchworkers a lot lately, and some of their influence is rubbing off, it seems.

Hi Linda

I love your flower canes-so bright and colourful, and your "panadol" beads are very cute!

Have you baked your "quilt"?-if not, you could make it into a mokume gane sheet by poking holes and making impressions in it.
If it's baked, how about a coaster?

cheers
Zarina

Thanks Janet and Zarina. I haven't baked the "quilt" yet, so maybe mokume gane would be good to try. (I've just been admiring some of Debbie C's in another thread. Smile )

I think the quilt would make a really cool brooch. I would cut it into a shape and use the rest to make earrings or a pendant to go with the panadol beads.

I used that chunk o' quilt to make a mokume gane sheet. Some of it ended up here:

The flower canes, meanwhile, continue to evolve:

And the spinoffs continue to exfoliate (or perhaps I should say "ex-fish-iate" Smile ).

Those ^^^ are fridge magnets. I'd put them into the monthly "organic" challenge except that they feel a little too... static for that. And finally, this is the humble bracelet that started the whole thing off.

The very last bits of the flower canes went into these fridge magnets.

Thanks Charlotte. Now I'm wondering what my next great obsession will turn out to be. I've been reading a beautifully-photographed pictorial guide to beads from all over the world, and other books about beading projects, and getting ideas everywhere I look.
